It's a fragile beast August 30, 2010 fred euphrat (Healdsburg, CA, US) Chose it for its quietness, but that did not include my cries of despair when the delicate bottom mechanism jammed after a day. Too complicated in the jar base, too fragile in its plastic parts, more watts than you need.
Got Cuisinart at 500 watts, am very happy.
Greatest Blender... Ever. June 27, 2010 SRO 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is actually the second KB720 that my wife and I have owned. We purchased the previous one over 3 years ago, and only bought the new one because we dropped and broke the jar from the first. That being said, we are still using the original base and after over 3 years of almost daily use and abuse, it is still going strong. (we are saving the new base for whenever the original dies.)
This blender is great for making smoothies, as frozen fruit is no match for its powerful motor. We have killed most of the other blenders we've owned with smoothies, but the KB720 seems invincible. I think it could probably double as a wood chipper.
Great product, I would recommend it to anyone. Excellent value for the price.
Makes perfect smoothies. Crushes ice and frozen fruit. Quiet. Easy to clean. June 25, 2010 E.Marcellus (Philadelphia, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is by far the best blender I've ever owned. I use it mostly to make smoothies from frozen fruit and yogurt. Don't just dump everything in at once, or you will have the problem that another poster complained about -- it will stir, not blend. Just add your yogurt or whatever liquid base in first and then add the frozen parts gradually through the hopper, stopping and using the ice crushing function between each frozen fruit piece, working your way up to higher speeds. I use very little liquid because I like thick smoothies, like shakes. It works perfectly and it's fast, and it does create the blending "vortex." It's also quiet for a blender and very easy to clean in the sink or dishwasher. I think I had the internal circuit breaker trip on me once, I guess because it overheated (?) -- no big deal. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it worked perfectly in about 10 secs. I'd rather have it protect itself than break (I've had several mixers and blenders start smoking or melting). It's great if you use it correctly.
Died After Two Years June 22, 2010 ASG (Malvern, PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the blender (from a national retail chain and not Amazon) in June 2008 because it seemed sturdy, powerful, and rugged. Unfortunately, this attractive $150 blender turned out to be none of these. I used it infrequently (e.g., once every 3-4 weeks during Spring and Summer) and almost exclusively to mix up margaritas or pina coladas. It never worked correctly. First, it emitted a burning electronics-type smell during every use. Second, it would shut down after blending for 60-90 seconds (unplugging it and replugging it would "reset" the unit and enable continued use). This past weekend, it quit working altogether. Luckily, we averted a revolt during our Father's Day barbecue by digging out our "backup" blender--my wife's 13 year old, $14 Hamilton Beach 10-speed Model 50161WV "Wave Action" plastic blender (which incidentally seemed significantly more powerful than the Krups). I would not recommend this Krups blender to anyone other than the folks at Hamilton Beach as a template for making an attractive blender.
Don't Buy! June 19, 2010 Sherry Harrison 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read all the reviews and continued to buy this blender because I wanted something quiet. As stated in the other reviews, it doesn't blend smoothies very well and after just one month of owning, the motor died. Not worth your money!
