it makes coffee, but... August 25, 2010 Amber's mom (Ann Arbor, MI) Yes, it makes coffee, yes it is a stainless carafe. No, it does not make a superb cup of coffee and it wastes a lot of very exquisite coffee if you try to make a halfways strong cup of anything.
Basically, the problem is that the water flow through the basket filter (if I had known it was a basket I wouldn't have bought it in the first place) is far too fast to allow for any sort of flavor to come through. It makes for watery, acidic coffee regardless of the bean or the grind.
Very disappointing and ho-hum, but I guess I got what I paid for.
Black & Decker Thermal Coffee Maker July 21, 2010 C. W. Webb (Sacramento, CA) I bought this as a replacement for an expensive pour over coffee maker that died. Since that was the 4th one that died I was tired of spending that much money on coffee makers. We have a good thermal coffee maker in our RV which doesn't get a lot of use, so I thought the inexpensive Black & Decker would go to the RV and the one in the RV would replace the one that died at home. However, after using the Black & Decker, I found that I liked it so much that it has become our primary coffee maker. The 8-cup capacity is just fine for the two of us and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee warm all morning. It has every feature I need, and it's far more energy efficient than the pour over that kept water heated 24-7. Unfortunately, the Black & Decker died after 2 months in service. In spite of all the good things about this coffee maker, I cannot recommend it. It's inexpensive and you get what you pay for. I replaced it with a Mr. Coffee. Great for an office July 5, 2010 Debra (Newnan, GA) I got this for my office at work. I like the fact that I can program it so the coffee is ready when I arrive in the morning. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for several hours. The one thing I don't like is that there are no water level marks inside the carafe so filling it at the sink is guesswork. I'm sure I'll figure it out. I REALLY like the fact that it doesn't have a heating element, so if for some reason I don't go to work, the coffee is not sitting there burning up the pot.
The product meets my requirements May 17, 2010 Lilo Ducommun (Laytonville, CA USA) The coffeemaker performs as I expected, it meets my requirements. I do like the thermal carafe. I don't use the programming feature, so I can't comment on it.
basically throwing away coffee May 8, 2010 John G. Szalay (Richmond, VA) The holes that drip the hot water onto the grounds are about 1 inch around, the surface are they need to cover is about 3 inches around. Guess what? not all the grounds get hot water on them, they remain dry. Wastes coffee, money and makes mediocre coffee. Drawn in by the low price but will eventually will cost more because I will have to replace it with something better.
